Lady Indian volleyball splits Saturday games at Norfolk

NORFOLK For the second straight weekend, the McCook Community College volleyball team split four matches. MCC finished the Northeast Community College Tournament Saturday beating Lake Region State College (North Dakota) in straight sets then losing in three to Fort Scott Community College (Kan.).

"We're still trying to find our groove and a lineup that brings the most thunder to the court," said MCC Coach Hayley Kobza.

MCC downed the Royals in the first match 25-18, 27-25, 25-15, then lost to the Greyhounds 18-25, 22-25, 19-25. With the win, Fort Scott improved to 8-0 on the year.

Stats were not available for the games Saturday.

On Friday MCC lost in straight sets to Kirkwood Community College (Iowa) 25-19, 25-18, 25-19 then beat North Dakota State College of science 17-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-23.

"We are doing great little things but not all the time," Kobza said. "I think consistency will come with time and I hope four days of practice this week help with that."

The Lady Indians are 5-4 on the season.

Saturday's match with Fort Scott game begins a string of eight straight matches against Kansas schools with the next seven all in the state of Kansas starting with a pair of games in El Dorado on Friday, two more in Salina Saturday, Garden City Sept. 12 and Arkansas City Sept. 13-14.

In El Dorado Friday MCC takes on Butler Community College at 1 p.m. and then face Hesston College at 3 p.m. On Saturday in Salina the Lady Indians play Kansas Wesleyan University at 2 p.m. then face Garden City Community College at 6 p.m.

MCC's next home game will be Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. against Central Community College.
