WALTERS KNOCKS OFF UNDEFEATED MILES 65-47

Walters State advanced to the second round of the women's national tournament by defeating Miles College 65-47.  The Lady Senators were the higher seeded team in their first round matchp with Miles College out of Montana, but Miles would come into the contest with a spotless record.  Miles was 33-0 coming into the tournament, but drew a #18 seed while the Lady Senators drew the #15 seed.  

The Lady Senators held the advantage in all categories of the contest as they outshot their opponents 47% to 32% from the field.  They had a better percentage form 3 point range, and at the free throw line.  They outrebounded Miles 39-20, and never trailed in the contest as they took a 20-6 lead by the end of the first quarter. 

It was a contest that was decided early which allowed the Lady Senators to get several players minutes in the game and keep fresh legs throughout.  Walters would expand the lead to 36-18 by halftime and would take their largest lead at 24 late in the contest.  Every Lady Senator that saw the floor scored in the game.

Jamaya Rogers was the only Walters player to reach double figures with 16 points to go with a team high eight rebounds.  Jalayah manning and Brianna Dixon both grabbed six rebounds with Dixon also being credited with 11 assists.  Dulcy Fankam Menjiadeu had five rebounds and blocked two shots to go with eight points.  Zacharyia Esmon also chipped in with nine points.
