Garcia tosses no-hitter in Lady Matadors sweep of Lake Region State
YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western Lady Matadors Softball team (8-8) outscored Lake Region State (2-8) 19-0 in a doubleheader sweep of the Royals on Tuesday afternoon at Charlie Dine Softball Field, winning game one, 10-0 in five innings before finishing the sweep with a 9-0 win in game two.
Jessie Garcia tossed five-inning no-hitter in game one while the Lady Matadors scored 10 runs on their way to a 10-0 win over Lake Region State in the opener.
Arizona Western scored two runs in the first inning on a Valerie Joaquin RBI single and an error allowing a second run to score. Arizona Western added three runs in the second, two of which scored on a Jayleen Espinoza double. The Lady Matadors capped off the scoring in the third inning, batting 10 times and scoring five runs.
Kaity McLaughlin had three hits in the win, going 3-for-4 while Joaquin went 2-for-2 with a walk and two singles, scoring three runs.23
MacKenzie Vela and Veronica Eddy each had two hits while Vela drove in a pair of runs in the game two 9-0 win over the Royals.
The Lady Matadors scored three runs in the first inning and added four more in the second and three in the fourth jumping out to a 9-0 lead.
Lili Vigil German threw five shutout innings, allowing just four hits and striking out four batters in the win.
The Lady Matadors head to Tucson to play a non-conference doubleheader with Miles Community College in the Tucson Invitational Games with the first pitch scheduled for 1:30 pm.
