Volleyball: Northeast Tournament Recap

The Central Community College volleyball team went 2-1 at the Northeast Community College tournament over the weekend. A brief recap of each match is below. CCC is now 5-2 on the season and will return to action on Thursday at Northeast Community College. The Raiders and the Hawks will get underway at 7 p.m.

Match 1 vs. Barton (Kan.) Community College

The Cougars swept the Raiders, 3-0, in opening round action. The final scores were 25-23, 25-12 and 25-13.

Ashley Brown made 13 kills while Kamryn Chohon recorded 27 assists and 23 digs. Chloe Odbert chipped in 21 digs.

"Our loss against a talented Barton squad doesn't accurately depict the progress we made in facing a quality opponent," said CCC head coach Mary Young. "I thought our inexperience in set one was exposed in pushing to finish the set with a win. We win that set and it may have been a completely different outcome overall. In the following sets, the scores really do not show the long rallies and our effort to make Barton earn points. I truly felt it was a quality match for us and we learned a lot about our team."

Match 2 vs. Williston (N.D.) State College

The Raiders and the Tetons went four games before CCC claimed victory. Central took the first two games, 27-25 and 25-21, before Williston took the third game, 26-24. The Raiders won the match with a 25-19 final in game four.

Emily Otten tallied 13 kills while Chohon made 39 assists. Odbert totaled a season-high 34 digs.

Match 3 vs. Garden City (Kan.) Community College

The Raiders closed out the Northeast tournament with a 3-0 win over the Broncbusters. The final scores read 25-16, 25-21 and 25-14.

Brown posted 15 kills while Chohon finished with 27 assists. Otten tallied 13 digs while Odbert and Josie Richards each recorded 12.

"It was a great second week for the Raiders," said Young. "Obviously, we were happy with the wins on day two of the tournament, but the growth we made as unit was very satisfying. "We started a bit slow on Saturday and I was extremely proud of our resolve to work together and push through our errors to get the win. Against Garden City, I thought we executed the game plan well and we really made some nice progress in correcting unforced errors."
