Jacks Win Defensive Battle over Royals

The DCB men's basketball team was involved in a defensive battle for much of the game Wednesday night against the Lake Region State College Royal. In the end the Lumberjacks would be able to build a narrow lead and hold in down the stretch to pick up a 79-69 win.

It would take nearly four minutes for either team to score. Danny Lazic would be the one to break the scoring drought and put DCB on the board with a 3-pointer from the wing. As the half progressed the Jacks would go on a 13-4 run to take a 21-9 lead, thanks in large part to a lift from their bench as Luke Valencia had 8 points in the quarter and Brayden West-Linnett added five. Late in the half the Royals were able to make a run and cut the DCB lead to seven at 34-27.

In the second half the Jacks offense would struggle early but would eventually be able to get their lead back up to double-figures.  As the half-progressed Brendan Redhead started to heat up. After being held to just three points in the first half Redhead scored 20 points in the second half to help lift DCB past LRSC by a final score of 79-69.

Redhead led all scorers with 23 points. He was joined in double-figures Lazic finished with 18 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double, Valencia added 11 points off the bench. Ginuwine Tropnas led the Royals with 14 points.

With the win the Jacks improved to 14-5 overall and 6-4 inside the Mon-Dak. Next up for DCB they hit the road to take Miles Community College Wednesday with tip-off scheduled for 8:30p.m. (CST).
