Royals Basketball Splits at BSC
The Lake Region State College Royals basketball teams traveled to Bismarck, ND to take on Bismarck State on February 4th.
The Lake Region State College Royals basketball teams traveled to Bismarck, ND to take on Bismarck State on February 4th.
First up, were the Lady Royals. To start the game, LRSC would get off to a slow start. It was 23-12 after the first quarter and that would cost them. They would trail 49-27 at the half and were never able to dig themselves out of the hole. The final would be BSC 88 LRSC 60.
Marta Lopez would score 11pts, Yzabelle Tevao had 13pts and 3rebs and Averi Ziegler would chip in 10pts and 4rebs.
Head Coach Danny Mertens would say after the game, "I was dissapointed with how we came out. BSC has always been a tough place for us to play and we just did not come ready to go. We continue to say the right things, we just need to start putting it into action on the floor. We have to continue to show up and work everyday in practice to improve."
Next up was the men's team. They too would get off to a slow start. Trailing fo rthe first 36 minutes of the game. Then with 3:53 to go, Beau Feltman would get an offensive rebound put back for the and 1 that would give LRSC the lead for the first time. The Royals would never give it back after that and finish off the Mystics 75-70. Carson Henningsgard led the way with 19pts. James Sommer had a 13pt 10reb double double and Ben Hoverson had 15pts.
Head Coach Jared Marshall said after the game, "What a great comeback win from the squad. It was a gritty effort and they never stopped fighting. I told them when it was close at the eight minute mark, I wanted them tied up or we had taken the lead. They did just that with four minutes to go. Usually, we get off to good starts and we have been struggling to finish. This game we struggled to start but had a good finish. We just need to keep working to put together a full game now.
The Lady Royals 3-4 and the Royals 5-2 will head to Bismarck again on Monday, February 8th to take on United Tribes Technical College.
