Jacks Have Royals Number
The Royals softball team went on the road to Bottineau ND to play a double header against Dakota College at Bottineau. The Jacks from Dakota College won both games by the scores of 9 to 6 and 3 to 2.
In game 1, the Royals scored 1 run in the first when Samantha Shumway reached base from a hit by pitch, moved to second from a sacrifice bunt by Tyra Robertson, and was hit in by Sadie Schilling. The Jacks responded in the bottom half of the 1st when Elisa Clay singled in 2 runners with two outs off of Royals pitcher Tehani Yamamoto. The Jacks scored 3 runs in the 2nd off of a 3 run homerun by Savanna Fabro. In the 4th, the Royals scored one run with two outs when Tehani Yamamoto walked with the bases loaded to score Samantha Shumway to cut the lead to 2 with the score 6-4. The Jacks scored 3 more, 2 in the 4th and 1 run in the 5th. In the top of the 7th, the Royals threatened when Jaelynn Jenkins reached on a single and scored on a triple by Precious Rawlins. Rawlins then scored after Shumway singled but that was all the Royals could score. Kassidy Cunningham pitched the complete game for the Jacks striking out 12 Royal batters. Tehani Yamamoto pitched for the Royals giving up 9 runs, walking 5, striking out 1, and giving up 2 homeruns.
In game 2, the Royals fell behind in the first inning when Savanna Fabro singled in Kassidy Cunningham who doubled earlier. In the 3rd inning, the Royals tied the game when Tyra Robertson singled scoring Jaelynn Jenkins. The game remained 1 to 1 until the 5th inning when the Jacks were able to score one run and then another run in the 6th inning on 4 consecutive hits off of Royals pitcher Madison Foss. In the top of the 7th, the Royals threatened again. Jaelynn Jenkins walked and stole second. With 2 outs, Tyra Robertson singled scoring Jenkins but the Royals were unable to score any more runs off of Dakota College's pitcher, Randee Charlo. For the game, Charlo struck out 15 Royal batters and gave up only 5 hits. Madison Foss pitched 6 innings, giving up 3 runs on 8 hits, and striking out one. The Royals committed one error in the game.
Sunday's back to back matchup with Bottineau was canceled due to weather. Both sides are working on a way to schedule it but with the Region XIII Tournament coming up this weekend in Dawson, MT, the games may not get played. Stay tuned for more details.
