Wildcats Sweep Royals on Road

On Monday night, the Lake Region State College Men's and Women's basketball team traveled to Wahpeton, ND to take on the North Dakota State College of Science Wildcats.

It was a night both coaches would soon forget as neither game went LRSC's way. The Lady Royals were able to keep it close for most of the first half but with the score tied at 29 midway through the second, the Wildcats would make their run. NDSCS would outscore LRSC 53-24 during the 2nd and 3rd quarters. The Lady Royals were never able to recover. The final NDSCS 84 LRSC 56. LRSC was led in scoring by Steph Miller who had 11pts.

Head Coach Danny Mertens said, "We were hanging tough with them midway through the second and then they put together a really nice run that we couldn't stop. We let our poor shooting dictate our defensive effort and that should never be the case."

With the loss the Lady Royals are now 15-8 (3-3) in the conference.

On the men's side the game was much closer but the Royals also struggled to score the rock. For the game they would shoot 31% from the field and 25% from behind the arc. After a defensive first half that had LRSC leading 26-20, NDSCS came out and made a run to take the lead which they never gave back. Unable to get stops in the end, the Royals would fall 67-59 to the Wildcats. LRSC was led in scoring by Jordan Lynn who had 16pts and Jayden Komrosky chipped in 11pts.

Head Coach Jared Marshall said, "I was disappointed in a variety of things tonight. I thought we did a good job defending in the first half. We just did not come out with the fire needed to win a conference game on the road in the 2nd half. They earned a victory by making plays down the stretch and we didn't."

With the loss the Royals are now 16-7 (4-2) in the conference.
