Back on the Right Track

Back on the Right Track

With six players hitting the double digit scoring mark the Lake Region State College Lady Royals basketball team was able to get back on the right track with a win over United Tribes on Thursday night in Bismarck.

The Lady Royals got out to a good start and led for most of the game. However, the scrappy Thunderbirds never went away. Just when LRSC would open it up and make the lead double digits, here came UTTC to cut it back down. Tribute to Coach Mertens squad as they never panicked and always stayed composed no matter what to keep themselves in a position to win. Combine that with a gritty defensive effort by Lake Region, that would be a recipe for success as they would get the win 83-74.

Jordyn Worley paced LRSC with 16pts, Makaila Popata Sione had 14pts, Stephanie Miller with 12 points and Marra Nelson, Jadyn Pollert, Telesia Manumaleuga each had 11pts.

Head Coach Danny Mertens said, "This was a nice road win to get us back on the right track. Our girls did an excellent job of taking whatever Tribes threw at us. It was a game of runs tonight, they would make one then we would make one. We always kept our composure to secure the win."

With the win LRSC moves to 15-7 on the season and 3-2 in the conference. Up next is the Wildcats from NDSCS. That game will be Monday night in Wahpeton.
