Royals Open MonDak Play with a Win

The Lake Region State College volleyball team traveled to Bottineau, ND on Tuesday night to take on the Dakota College at Bottineau Jacks in the MonDak Conference opener.

The Lady Royals would not get off to the start they wanted. Losing the first set 16-25 & 17-25. They found themselves with their backs against the wall on the road in a hostile environment. However, they would take the intermission to regroup and refocus. In the third set it was almost like a switch had been flipped. The Lady Royals found their groove dominating 25-13 to get themselves back in the game. Set four saw more of the same, with LRSC controlling the set. DCB would not go down without a fight on their home court but Lake Region proved to be too much winning 25-19. With the match locked up at two sets apiece, they went to the critical fifth and final set. The Lady Royals would jump out to an early lead, forcing a DCB timeout. With game point on the line and leading 14-11, Coach Greywater would take a timeout after a DCB Ace. It proved to be the right strategy as they would get the 15th and final point for the win 15-11, winning 3-2.

Samantha Overend proved to be crucial down the stretch. She would play smart, using her blocks strategically to help propel the Lady Royals to victory. Jakenda Short was hot from the service line, nailing 3 aces. Jadaeya Morrell and Jexley Porrata had 11 kills and 13 kills each. Fabianne Besosa would scrape out 31 digs throughout the night and Rachel Hill would continue to prove why she is one of the best setters in the conference with 42 assists.

Head Coach Brigitte Greywater said after the game, "What a hard fought victory tonight. It seems no matter what, every game versus DCB is always a nail biter. I cannot put into words how proud I am of our girls. I think it shows the growth and maturity of our gteam that they did not roll over and give up. They continued to battle and it paid off."

Lake Region is now 4-7 (1-0) on the season heading into a break in their schedule. They will not play again until next Tuesday in Dawson, MT versus Dawson Community College.
