Pioneers Pull Away Late from Ladyjacks

The DCB Ladyjacks Basketball team hung right with the Mile Community College Pioneers for three quarters Sunday afternoon, but a big fourth quarter from MCC would allow them to pull away late with an 85-66 win

The Ladyjakcks offense started slow going just 4-14 from the field in the first quarter. On the other hand, MCC went 9-16 in the quarter to give them the lead. A solid quarter at the free throw line for DCB kept them in it going 6-8. After ten minutes the Pioneers led 20-16. The Ladyjack offense got going in the second quarter with Alyssa St Pierre scoring 10 of her 25 points in the second stanza. However, the MCC offense had another efficient quarter shooting 50% from the field. At halftime MCC led DCB 41-31.

In the third quarter both teams went back and forth with neither team gaining an upper hand the deficit remained at 10 points at 58-48 as the teams prepared for the fourth quarter of play. Jacie Hall would get a basket and get fouled to cut the lead to single digits and force a MCC timeout. Hall would connect on the free throw out of the timeout and cut the lead to just eight at 61-53. A 6-0 Pioneer run would push the lead back to 14 and force a DCB timeout. A 15-0 run would stretch the lead to 21 at 74-53. Jacie Hall would have a big final five minutes scoring 11 points in the quarter, but the Ladyjacks defense could not stop the Pioneers down the stretch as MCC shot 59% from the field in the fourth quarter. In the end the Pioneers would win by a final score of 85-66.

The Ladyjacks were led by Alyssa St Pierre with a career high 25 points. Jacie Hall joined her in double-figures with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Jessica Tomkins led all scores with 26 points.

With the loss DCB falls to 6-14 overall and 0-11 in the Mon-Dak. The Ladyjacks host Dawson Community College Thursday night with game time set for 5:30p.m.
