BACK-TO-BACK CHAMPS
The UTTC women's basketball team beat Gogebic CC on Sunday, and afterward celebrated a second straight Region XIII title.
United Tribes Technical College used a 26-8 run in the second quarter to fight off Gogebic CC in the Region XIII Championship game Sunday in Ironwood, MI.
The Thunderbirds finished the regular season 10-17 overall and 4-10 in the Mon-Dak Conference, while Gogebic closed the regular season at 12-12 overall. UTTC will take on Region IX winner, Central Community College, on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Winner will advance to the NJCAA DII National Tournament.
Hannah Golus led the Thunderbirds with 23 points and 7 rebounds. Jasmyne Two Moons finished with 13 points and 4 assists. Karissa DuShane and Amryn Brown combined for 20 points, each scored 10. The Gogebic Samsons were led in scroing by Airiana White with 15 points. Freshman Hannah Golus was named to the All-Region XIII Team and Sophomore Karissa DuShane was named Region XIII Most Valuable Player.
UTTC was 29-of-64 (45.3%) from the field and 8-of-21 (38.1%) from 3-point range, while Gogebic was 22-of-59 (37.3%) from the floor and 3-of-17 from downtown. The Thunderbirds were 10-of-13 (76.9%) at the free throw line, while Gogebic was 13-of-16 (81.3%). The Thunderbirds had a 45-28 advantage in rebounds and a 17-4 advantage in 2nd chance points.
