DUSHANE SCORES 31 AS THUNDERBIRD WOMEN LOOK TO DEFEND REGION XIII CROWN
Behind the incredible shooting performances of sophomores, Karissa DuShane and Kierra Johnson, the United Tribes Women's Basketball Team defeated Dakota College at Bottineau to move into the Region XIII Championship game Sunday against Gogebic College.
All five United Tribes starters scored in double figures Wednesday, as the Thunderbirds women's basketball team defeated Dakota College at Bottineau, 100-83. It is the second victory against the LadyJacks this season.
UTTC improved to 11-17 overall, while Dakota College at Bottineau finishes their season at 11-20. The Thunderbirds move on and will now compete for the Region XIII Championship in Ironwood, MI against the Gogebic Samsons. Tip-off is scheduled for Sunday March 1 at 1:00pm central time.
Karissa DuShane and Kierra Johnson led the Thunderbirds with 31 and 23 points. Combined, they shot 9-of-15 from downtown. Hannah Golus added 16 points, while LaTosha Thunderhawk and Jasmyne Two Moons had 12 and 10 respectively. Trinity Goggles had a game-high 24 points for the LadyJacks. Golus finished with a season-high 16 rebounds, collecting her fifth double-double of the season. Two Moons also had 11 rebounds and 5 assists.
UTTC was 38-of-85 (44.7%) from the floor and 13-of-28 (46.4%) from 3-point range. The LadyJacks were 28-of-84 (33.3%) from the field and 11-of-26 (42.3%) from downtown. UTTC went 11-of-17 (64.7%) from the free throw line in the game. Bottineau was 16-of-27 (59.3%) at the charity stripe. The LadyJacks had a 13-8 advantage in bench points, while UTTC converted 18 points off 11 DCB turnovers.
