The Lumberjack Volleyball team picked up their first win of the season in convincing fashion Monday night sweeping Dawson Community College 3-0.
Set one saw the two teams trade points, but the Jacks had control of the set as many of the Bucs early points came off of DCB serving errors. Eventually the Lumberjacks settled in and took set one 25-17.
In set two it would be the Bucs that would control the set in the early going eventually building a 20-13 lead. DCB was not out of it yet though a Strong serving performance from Amariah Logue coupled with good team defense allowed the Jacks to go on a 9-1 run to take a 22-20 lead. The Jacks used that momentum to take the set 25-22.
The third set was evenly contested early on with neither team able to build much of a lead. A 4-0 DCB run to give them a 14-10 lead gave the Jacks some much needed breathing room. As the set entered its closing stages the Bucs closed the gap eventually tying the game up at 18-18. A 4-0 DCB put the Jacks on the brink of victory, but DCC didn't go away quietly, coming back to tie the set at 24-24. DCB would score and have match point again, the Bucs answered, the process repeated itself again. DCB would again score and have match point for fourth time in the set, and this time would put it away to win the set and the match 28-26.
Taelyn Kanoa-Tilton led the team in kills with 11 and added 12 digs. Karrington Eugene led the Jacks in hitting percentage hitting a strong .625%. Logue dropped in 7 service aces to lead the Jacks. Hailey Jonker had another strong game setting with 18 assists and came up big playing the front row when the Jacks ran low on substitutions in the final set. Libero Daelyn McGregor also had a strong game with 15 digs.
With the win DCB moves to 1-6 overall and 1-2 inside the Mon-Dak. The Jacks close out their homestand Wednesday when Miles Community College visits "The Woodshed." First serve is set for 7:00p.m.
