Lady Buccaneers Top Sheridan in Overtime

Lady Buccaneers Top Sheridan in Overtime

The Lady Buccaneers of DCC Basketball snapped a two-game losing streak and defeated Sheridan College in overtime 73-66.

It was a thrilling game that went back and forth throughout the afternoon.  There were 14 lead changes and 11 ties.  Both teams showed signs of strengths and weaknesses, but it was Dawson who prevailed in the end.  Sheridan outrebounded the Lady Bucs 47-42, had 21 second chance points to Dawson's 8, and outscored Dawson 24-2 off the bench.  The Lady Bucs, however, converted 33 points off turnovers to Sheridan's 7.  Dawson also shot better from the field with 44%, 43% from the 3 point range and 72% from the foul line.

It wasn't until the last several seconds when Head Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr. called a timeout after a turnover made by Sheridan at half court that the fate of the Lady Bucs would be in the hands of freshman Alexius Foster of Tacoma, WA.  Coach Lagmay would create a play isolating Foster who was able to penetrate to the rim and tie the score, and sending the game into overtime.  Still in regulation of the game, Foster almost made a buzzer beater as well, but missed and the ball was tipped out of bounds by a Lady General.  Dawson still had one second on the shot clock to win the ball game from the baseline out of bounds.  Another play was drawn, but a shot attempt came up short by the Lady Bucs.

A satisfied Coach Lagmay stated, "It felt really good to get that win in the end.  Sheridan runs a quality program.  However, our Lady Bucs put them to the test and persevered throughout the afternoon, and we were truly proud of them.  After implementing a new offense within the last week, it clearly showed in the last two games it has been working for us."

Alexius Foster had a game high of 27 points along with 2 steals and 3 assists.  Ejanae Coopwood scored 15 points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals and 4 assists.  Emily Harwood had 13 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals.  Lexia Bell-White almost had a double double scoring 9 points and grabbing a game high 10 rebounds.

The Lady Bucs will conclude their last December game this Friday against Stone Child College at 5:30 pm before heading into Christmas break. During Friday's game along with the DCC Men's team playing at home on Thursday and Saturday, they will be holding a canned food drive with all donations given to Dawson County Food Bank.
