Knights Volleyball wins first game of District G Championship

The North Platte Community College Knights Volleyball Team proved it can hold its own against next level competition Friday in Wahpeton, N.D.

The Knights won their first game of the District G Championship, downing North Dakota State College of Science 3-2. The final scores were: 20-25, 25-21, 25-21, 20-25 and 15-10.

Peyton Negley, of North Platte, led with 15 kills, and Alysen Daniels, of Mullen, added 12 more.

Madi Neely, of Broken Bow, put up six blocks. Erica Hopping, of Sutherland, delivered 45 assists, and Ruby Valle, of Weldona, Colo., went for 26 digs.

"We played well in sets two and three and then had a great start in four but let them come back on us," said NPCC head volleyball coach Alexa McCall. "I'm super proud of how we responded in five, but we have to find a way to be more consistent and not let them go on runs. We have to be ready tomorrow and stay aggressive."

The Knights entered the tournament as the DII Region IX champs while NDSCS was the winner of Region XIII. Both teams are vying for a shot at nationals.

Play is best two out of three. The second game will begin at 11 a.m. tomorrow, and, if necessary, a third game will be played 30 minutes afterward.

The winner will advance to the National Junior College Athletic Association Volleyball National Championship April 13-15 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
