NDSCS Sweeps the Royals

On Thursday night, February 21st, the Lake Region State College Royals basketball teams traveled to Wahpeton, ND to take on NDSCS in a double header.

It was not a night to remember for the Royals. It started off first for the Lady Royals, when they struggled in the second quarter and only put three points on the board. Trailing by twenty at halftime, the Royals would outscore the Wildcats after half but it was too little too late. LRSC would fall 58-47 to NDSCS.

After the game Head Coach Danny Mertens would say, "It was really just that one quarter. We didn't have the effort or energy necessary during that stretch that we needed to compete. We picked it up after that coming out of halftime but we just could not get over the hump."

Jordyn Worley put up a double double with 11pts and 10rebs.

Next up was the men. A slow first half had the Royals down thirteen heading into the break. They would close the gap and cut the Wildcat lead to three points with under nine minutes to go. However, NDSCS would stifle the Royals run and make one of their own. A barrage of late threes would doom Lake Region and they would fall 91-70. Myles Arnold led the way with 24pts for LRSC.

Head Coach Jared Marshall said, "We withstood everything they threw at us tonight. We continued to rally everytime they made a run. They just made one more than we could stand. Solid effort by the boys tonight."
