On Sunday afternoon, February 14th, the LRSC Royals took on Dakota College at Bottineau Lumberjacks at home.
First on the court was the women. It was a back and forth battle that saw LRSC leading by two at the half. Then a big second half from the Jacks put them over the top on the Royals 66-58. Kayla Byrne led Lake Region with 24pts and 9ast. Marta Lopez stuffed the stat sheet with 9pts, 6rebs & 7ast.
Head Coach Danny Mertens said after the game, "It was another tough day on the offensive end for us. We have stepped up our defensive intensity but we just can't seem to get it going on the offensive end consistently. That is something we will work hard on in practice to get us ready for Thursday night versus Williston."
Next up was the men. In another stout defensive effort by the Royals, they held DCB to 25 first half points and 66 points for the game on their way to a 77-66 win. James Sommer would come off the bench and spark the Royals with 17pts, Brody Kriesel would chip in 13pts and 8ast and Ben Hoverson would score 16pts.
Head Coach Jared Marshall had this to say, "This is another game we won on the defensive side of the floor. We continue to guard very well. Our goal now is to take these really solid halfs we have and stretch them to a full game. We still had too many turnovers this game, which we need to clean up. The thing I was most proud of was the execution of the adjustments we made at half time."
The women are now 3-7 on the season and the men are 6-4. Next up is Williston State College February 18th, game times are 5:30pm and 7:30pm.
