Royals Basketball Closes Out Regular Season

The Lake Region State College Basketball teams closed out the regular season this past week.
Both teams would square off with Bismarck State College on Wednesday, March 24th & Thursday, March 25th. The women would then play a re-schedule game on Saturday, March 27th vs. Williston State College.
First up, were the women. In the first game versus Bismarck State they would fall 82-55. It was a big second and fourth quarter that proved to be the Royals undoing. Kayla Byrne would score 18pts along with Josie Brodina who had 14pts.
The next night was more of the same as BSC would use a big 3rd quarter to pull away to win 72-59. The Royals trailed four points with less than a minute to go, two turnovers led to buckets for BSC that put them in a nine point hole at half. Coming out of the break the Mystics would go on a 12-0 run to take control. Laura Ribo would score 20pts off the bench for LRSC.
In the regular season finale, a slow start would be Lake Regions down fall. The Tetons jumped out to a 28-4 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Maddy Leaf would score 36pts and add 11rebs in the game.
Next up, the men. The Royals would snag a pair of wins over Bismarck in two different ways. On Wednesday, they would grind out Bismarck on defense holding them to 27% from the field and 27% from 3. This would lead to a 64-52 win. Beijan Newbern would record a double double with 13pts and 11rebs.
The next night was a shootout between the two teams with the Royals prevailing 89-85. Down three at the half, LRSC would get stops down the stretch to seal the victory. Trace Evans would score 20pts and 6rebs, Beijan Newbern would record 18pts and 6rebs. Five Royals would hit double figures.
With the win the Royals men close out the year winning five straight and eight of their last nine.
The men finish the season 14-8, 3rd in the conference, and will host Bismarck State at the sportscenter on Tuesday March 30th at 7pm.
The women finish 5-17, 6th in the conference, and will hit the road to Wahpeton, ND to take on NDSCS on Tuesday March 30th at 7pm.
