The Lake Region State College Lady Royals Volleyball team would play Bismarck State College on back to back nights in MonDak Conference play.
Coming into the game BSC would be ranked top 10 nationally in the opening NJCAA polls. The first match was in Bismarck on February 2nd. The Lady Royals would play tough from the start but the Mystics would finish them off behind a strong 2nd and 3rd set. BSC would win 25-19, 25-11 and 25-10, taking the match in 3 sets.
Bella Hone would have a solid night for the Lady Royals tallying 6 kills and 1 solo block. Mardi Scutchings would chip in 5 kills and Tangi Jenson would have 18 assists and 7 digs. Head Coach Steve Waddell said after the game, "When we went to BSC, we fought hard the first match against a very solid team that's nationally ranked. As a team, we received serve well and served strong. We couldn't stop a very strong and consistent attack."
On the next night, February 3rd, the Mystics would travel to Devils Lake to take on the Lady Royals.
This time Bismarck State would get off to a strong start with Lake Region finishing stronger. However, the Mystics were too much for the Royals in the end, they would win 25-9, 25-17 and 25-16 to sweep the match.
Mardi Scutchings had 7 kills, 1 ace and 1 block. Jadaeyja Morrell recorded 5 kills and 12 digs. Jensen Gabora had 18 digs and 3 assists.
Head Coach Steve Waddell had this to say after the game, "As the night progressed when BSC came to us, we started to get a bit more comfortable playing together. We are still figuring out how to play together, but our serving and serve receive keeps getting better. Each match we play, we get more confident offensively, and we are improving each night."
Lake Region is now 1-4 overall. Next up will be NDSCS Tuesday, February 9th at 7pm. The game will be played at Sweetwater Elementary.
