Volleyball Splits with DCB

This past week the LRSC Volleyball team would take on Dakota College at Bottineau in Bottineau on Friday night and then again at home on Saturday afternoon.

Friday night, the Lady Royals would stick to their gameplan and it paid off with a opening season victory. Head Coach Steve Waddell would say, "I was very happy with how the team responded to being down 20-24 in the first set." The Lady Royals would battle back after losing the first to take the 2nd set 26-24.

They would carry that momentum in to the 3rd & 4th sets winning 25-22 and 25-18. The final would be 3 sets to 1 in favor of LRSC.

Bella Hone had a huge night for LRSC with 11 kills on 24 attacks. Tangi Jenson added 23 set assists, an ace serve, and 12 digs. Jadaeya Morrell came out with 8 kills, an ace serve, 9 digs, and 2 assist blocks.

"It was a great feeling to get that opening win, for the girls and for myself. We played with passion and emotion, which was fun to see," Coach Waddell said after the game. 

On Saturday, the Lady Royals picked up right where they left off. They opened the match fired up and played what Coach Waddell referred to as, "Some of our best volleyball." Winning set 1, 25-20 and set 2, 25-21. However, Lake Region would lose sight of the game plan and drop the last 3 sets 25-16, 25-20 and 15-9 to lose 3-2.

Coach Waddell, "There were definitely some high points in the match, but we just couldn't finish. That was dissapointing to see. We can be a very good team when we want to be, we just have to stay consistent."

Mardi Scutchings led the way for on Saturday with 14 kills, an ace serve, and a block assist. Jadaeya Morrell continued her steady play with 13 kills, 2 ace serves, and 11 digs. Jensen Gabora also contributed well with 3 ace serves and 25 digs.

LRSC is 1-1 on the season with a matchup against Bismarck State coming this week on Tuesday at Bismarck and Wednesday in Devils Lake.
